SIBO – What is it?

SIBO stands for Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth and is a major cause for Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). It is difficult to treat other digestive problems if SIBO remains present, and the longer it remains in the small intestine, the more damage it can cause.

Unfortunately, SIBO goes largely undiagnosed which can result in years of damage to the small intestine. People may develop intolerances to certain foods like gluten, lactose or fructose as the small intestine becomes less equipped to manage it.

What can be done to treat SIBO?

At Studio You, we take a double approach through starvation of the bacteria and active treatment. This means removing the foods we sometimes love to eat: sugars, carbohydrates and starches. Since the bacteria can live for several months without food, a diet that avoids these substances is required and is the protocol listed in recommended meal plans & cookbooks:
